Vietnam and Switzerland are working to enhance their long-standing friendship and expand cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, innovation, science, and technology. This commitment was underscored at an event in Bern celebrating Vietnam’s National Day and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Vietnamese National Assembly Vice President Nguyễn Thị Thanh emphasized the significance of the relationship with Switzerland, acknowledging the latter’s support during critical periods in Vietnam’s history. Thanh pointed out that political trust and traditional friendship form the foundation for deepening economic ties and advancing collaboration in science, technology, and innovation. She highlighted opportunities in areas where Switzerland’s expertise aligns with Vietnam’s development needs.
The economic partnership is a vital aspect of the bilateral relationship, with trade volumes surpassing $2 billion annually. Over 100 Swiss companies have invested in Vietnam, spanning industries like pharmaceuticals, food processing, precision machinery, and watchmaking.
Swiss Senator Mauro Poggia noted the substantial expansion of cooperation since Vietnam’s economic renewal process began, with Switzerland supporting Vietnam’s economic transformation and sustainable development. Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Châu Mai Anh mentioned the upcoming establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership in 2025 and the conclusion of negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association as key milestones.
Both nations recognize further potential for collaboration in innovation, digital transformation, sustainable development, finance, and human resource development, indicating a promising future for their bilateral relations.
