Finnish President Alexander Stubb has commenced a two-day official visit to Luxembourg, with the goal of enhancing bilateral relations and discussing cooperation on European issues. The visit began on Tuesday with a ceremonial welcome, as President Stubb and his wife were received with military honours outside the Grand Ducal Palace. The couple subsequently met with Luxembourg’s Grand Ducal couple and paid tribute to those who died in service by laying a wreath at the eternal flame.
During his stay, President Stubb is set to engage in discussions with Luxembourg’s senior officials, including Claude Wiseler, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. These meetings are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing current European affairs.
The itinerary for the visit also includes significant engagements with European institutions. President Stubb will visit the European Investment Bank and the European Court of Justice, highlighting the existing cooperation between Finland and Luxembourg in the framework of European institutions.
On the second day of the visit, President Stubb is scheduled to explore further collaboration in academic and economic sectors. This includes a visit to the University of Luxembourg’s Belval campus and the SES headquarters in Betzdorf. These stops underscore the commitment of both Finland and Luxembourg to fostering academic and economic relations.
