Italy is grappling with escalating fuel prices as petrol and diesel costs continue to surge on the national road network. As of Wednesday, the average price for self-service petrol has risen to €2.027 per litre, while diesel has climbed to €2.131 per litre. This increase is part of an ongoing trend driven by disruptions in global energy markets due to the ongoing Iran conflict.
The Fuel Price Observatory’s latest data shows a slight increase from the previous day’s prices, with petrol up from €2.022 per litre and diesel from €2.130 per litre. These rising costs are placing additional financial strain on Italian households and businesses, as higher fuel prices contribute to increased transportation and operational expenses.
The situation is even more pronounced on Italy’s motorways, where the cost of fuel typically exceeds national averages. On these roads, self-service petrol now averages €2.110 per litre, up from €2.104, while diesel has reached €2.206, a slight increase from €2.204.
This persistent rise in fuel prices is a significant concern for many, as it compounds the pressure on budgets already stretched by various economic challenges.
