Italy’s Defence Minister, Guido Crosetto, has emphasized the country’s unwavering support for Ukraine, underscoring that this commitment is a crucial component of maintaining European security. After attending a meeting with defence ministers from the E5 group in Paris, Crosetto declared that Italy’s backing of Ukraine is rooted in its international obligations, including those to the European Union and NATO. He highlighted the ongoing conflict’s potential threat to the continent’s safety.
In his statements, Crosetto articulated that aiding Ukraine should not be perceived merely as assistance to a foreign nation but as a strategic investment in the future and collective security of Europe. He assured that Italy would continue to support Ukraine within the constraints of its resources.
These comments from Crosetto come against a backdrop of political discord within Italy’s governing coalition. The tension arose after Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani opposed Transport Minister Matteo Salvini’s call to cease military aid to Kyiv. Despite these internal disagreements, Crosetto’s assertions reaffirm Italy’s stance on maintaining its support for Ukraine.
